On the surface it seemed that many social networks were simply a waste of time and created considerable distractions from productive and meaningful work.  Many of the early blogs that I read were full of misinformation and seemed to be written by individuals who had too much time on their hands and nothing better to do than gripe and complain.

However, over the last few years I have been inspired by the development of technology and the intelligence and creativity of those who are using social media to have some fun, connect and share valuable information. I am excited to see the momentum building and I am convinced that the benefits of social media are great. Of course, we must remain aware of potential risks and exercise good sense as we share more information online. When we use them responsibly, new technologies and social media enable us to develop, rekindle and maintain relationships like never before.  Through personal and professional communities of common interests, individuals and businesses have opportunities to connect in ways that are more meaningful and relevant.

I don't plan to abandon traditional communication and media but I do believe that we can use them more effectively and that social media can help us define and get to know our target audiences better. We will learn from inevitable mistakes and we must continue to use our social and business skills, experience and wisdom as we engage in these new platforms. We can share and guide each other and our colleagues, clients and kids through the exposure made possible by so many social networks and powerful new tools.  We can also learn a lot from younger generations as they are uninhibited by the technology and very eager to connect, learn, collaborate, entertain and be entertained.

I’m diving in and launching my own blog and a new website today. I hope that you’ll subscribe and join me as we ride the social media wave and share ideas and observations regarding communication trends, successes and mishaps.

This is very cool. The concept, the connectivity, and the product are amazing. The marriage of creativity and social media promises unimagined new forms of human expression- artistic and otherwise. I am inspired.

Great artilce on Social Media. The facts are startling (eye opening) that are presented in the
"Social Media Revolution 2" clip. Wow! Thanks for the great info that was so easily viewed using your site. This may be the nudge that some of us "boomers" need to "dive in" to the social media "waters......without our umbrellas!
