A few years ago, I began dipping my toe into various social networking sites, reading a variety of blogs and books and attending seminars on the subject.  Like many others, I was initially hesitant but the social media wave has been too significant to ignore. As a professional communicator and a parent, I had to engage and learn whether these online trends were lasting and if they represented value and real opportunity or overwhelming risk.
